DISS-UNITY .

Diss-Unity… You see it on tell-Lie-vision; you see it in the mean streetz of your neighborhood, on the corners, and maybe in your own household from time to time. But since the invention of  web sites like Facebook, Twitter, and other sociable sites there seems to be an uprising of what I see as N***a moments.

How often do you click onto a web social site watching several pages waiting for someone to blast their so-called accepted friends? How often has someone extended you a hand only to turn around and stab you in the back moments later with an in-boxed comment? Things seem to have gotten so out of hand that there is now a web site strictly dedicated to and called Facebook Fights, http://fbfights.com/ where people can upload some of their worse argumentative moments.

One of the most saddened things I have seen is the diss-unity among many African American authors who seem to enjoy bashing

“Yeah, I showed that N***a some love out in the open but then I hit the dislike button on his A**!”

The truth of the matter seems to circumvent what is posted on many pages themselves or tweeted through the Twitter e-grapevine, by the mouths of others who claimed to have read and posted great remarks of at least thirty books or more per day. To be honest, and you know who you are. If you are posting thirty books a day, and saying they are all great. You are either the fastest reader of all time or simply put; a liar. Which one you are, I don’t know as it remains to be seen.

Furthermore, as a group or groups of authors we should strive to uplift one another. I’d rather hear the truth about my book be it bad or good from a fellow author or fan who can offer constructive critique instead of the usual “You think you’re hot! You ain’t reaching the top!” maniacal diatribe coming from the mouths of ignorant, backstabbing, crabs, bunched up like cockroaches trying to promote their book by demeaning others in the process.

If you are an author and your book is great, sooner or later you will get recognized. So what if you haven’t made the bestsellers list on Amazon yet. Don’t be discourage there are many more avenues to promote your book on other than Facebook. Surf around, research the web, create your own site, network, throw a party, and compliment another who may in return compliment you in your time of need. Do anything other than going on the downtrodden path of bad mouthing your competition whose book has no bearing on your own. Instead try doing the above and you might get somewhere, and I would suggest that you are careful on whom you fail to connect with when offered a hand because you might need them one day. Just keep in mind that Moses at one time was one lone man lost within the wilderness of the desert, and became the symbol of a nation. Remember when President Obama was told that he as a black man with very little time in the Senate, and the only black Senator as well, didn’t have a snowball chance in h*** of winning.

My last words to you all are, let’s drop the Diss and look forward to the Unity that we can embrace as a solid unit. Everyone knows by now that the number one spot can only be held by one at a time. Therefore, learn to be patient, help those who need it, support not just your own, and you just might make it. Wanting to see the next person not succeeding just because you are not does no one any good, including yourself. Take heed being a successful writer takes much more than publishing a book. You need to campaign, make yourself seen, and make the right sacrifices. Thousands of authors on one site yelling “Cop my book! It’s only 99 cents!…” will not get you there no matter how many members it has. With that said I hope we can put an end to the madness and move forward as a coalition.
